THIS WEEKEND: Come to the 12th annual Library of Congress two-day National Book Festival on the National Mall.  President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama are honorary chairs for the event. The festival is free and open to the public. 

Last year’s Festival was a resounding success and drew more than 200,000 attendees to the National Mall. This annual free event continues to feature authors/poets and to celebrate the joy of lifetime reading.

As always, the Festival will feature award-winning authors, poets and illustrators in several pavilions dedicated to various literature categories. Festival-goers can meet and hear firsthand from their favorite authors, get books signed, have photos taken with mascots and storybook characters and participate in a variety of learning activities.

Jewel, R.L. Stine, Lois Lowry, and David Stein are just a f ew of the exciting authors who will be on hand for book signings.

Be sure to Subscribe to the Library of Congress e-mail or RSS feeds, or follow them on Twitter at @LibraryCongress to check the schedule for the list of authors and their appearance times so you don’t miss your favorites. The Science Fiction, Fantasy & Graphic Novels and Special Presentations pavilions will be available Sunday only.

Winners of 12 major domestic and international titles, D. C. United is the most successful team in Major League Soccer history.  Luckily for us,  D.C. United plays soccer all summer right here at RFK Stadium, and as a Summer Special, they’re offering BOGO–Buy one full price ticket, get one free for the match this Wednesday, August 29th, against the New York Red Bulls.

And as an added bonus, the first 5,000 fans will even receive a FREE D.C. United poster.

Love-A-Fare sale is February 14.

Some of the deals include

  • $75 Washington D.C. to New York
  • $100 Washington D.C. to Orlando

The sale is for mostly for travel Tuesdays and Wednesdays from February 21 to April 3.  Some restrictions apply.

The Best Picture Showcase features tickets for four, five or nine movies at prices of $30 to $60.

The films are shown February 18 and February 25 at participating AMC theaters.

Deals include $54 Washington to New York and $34 Baltimore to Boston.

Some exclusions and restrictions may apply.

Tickets must be purchased by January 4. Taxes and fees are additional.

AirTran, Virgin America, Southwest and Frontier are offering  sales too, according to TravelZoo.
