
If you’re a fan of the European style street with plenty of outdoor cafés and outside restaurant seating, you’ll be happy to know that Bethesda has decided to close some area streets to add outdoor seating. The “streetery” as it’s been dubbed, will open Wednesday. Now, residents are encouraged to grab food from local restaurants and bring it to the outdoor seating to enjoy a meal. The Bethesda Urban Partnership will take care of trash pickup and disinfecting surfaces. Here are the street closures (daily from 11 a.m-10 p.m.):
- Norfolk Ave. between St. Elmo and Cordell Ave.
- Norfolk Ave. between Cordell and Del Ray Ave.
- Woodmont Ave. between Elm Street and Bethesda Ave.

Gringos & Mariachis (4928 Cordell Ave.) – The popular Mexican restaurant has a to-die-for $14 chicken chimichanga with caramelized onions, guacamole, chihuahua cheese, pico de gallo, salsa verde, guajillo salsa and topped with sour cream. Note: The hours of operation as of now are 4-9:30 p.m. Mon.-Fri. and 12 noon-10:30 p.m. Fri. & Sat. and 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
La Panetteria (4921 Cordell Ave). – Serving sizable Italian favorites, La Panetteria is currently offering weekly specials perfect for sharing. This week, take the whole family down to grab their $42 beef lasagna. Their cooked and ready to eat option is perfect to enjoy along the streetery. 5-9 p.m. Tues.-Sat.
Brickside Food & Drink (4866 Cordell Ave.) – The All-American hangout has great shareable apps like an $11 nacho platter with Monterey jack and cheddar cheeses, pico de gallo, black beans, salsa verde, jalapeños, scallions and avocado-lime sour cream (beef, smoked chicken or barbacoa can be added for an additional $3-$4). There’s also other great options like fried pickles, chicken wings, onion rings and more. 11 a.m.-2 a.m. Mon.-Thurs., Sunday and 11 a.m.-3 a.m. Fri. & Sat.
Barrel & Crow (4867 Cordell Ave.) – Serving simple Mid-Atlantic fare, Barrel & Crow has a great $29 Maryland rockfish with roasted mushrooms, marinated tomatoes, arugula, salsa verde and ancho chili oil. If you’re up for a snack to share on the streetery, the $16 house charcuterie and cheese board is mouthwateringly good. Barrel & Crow is also serving takeout cocktails—the B&C sangria is amazing. 3-10 p.m. Tues.-Sun.
Sala Thai (4828 Cordell Ave.) – Sala Thai has been serving the DC area for over three decades. Their extensive vegetarian soup and appetizers menu offers $5.95 options like Tom Yum veggies mixed in hot and sour lemongrass soup or Pad Thai J, a mix of Thai noodles sauteed with tofu, mixed vegetables and ground peanuts. There’s also of course lots of noodles, chicken and more. 11:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Mon-Sun., open until 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
