Imagine falling asleep to the sounds of the howling wolves or being awakened by the bark of the sea lions at play. It can be so, when you come spend the night at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo! It’s the best way to see the Zoo’s animals after hours and have the park all to yourself.
Pitch your tent on Lion/Tiger Hill and prepare for a wild time! Your overnight begins with an exclusive keeper-led tour of an exhibit area. Throughout the event enjoy games, activities and a walk through the Zoo. You’ll also receive a breakfast snack!
There are two Snore & Roar options, one for families and one for adults only. Adults without children may register for either, however please be aware that the educational activities associated with the family programs are geared toward groups with children from ages 6 through early teens. If you prefer a more mature audience, check out the adults-only program.
Snore & Roar overnights take place between June and September. A maximum of six participants may be signed up per registration. Snore & Roar campers sleep in four-person tents provided by the Zoo. Participants are never asked to share their tent with strangers. If you need special accommodations, please refer to the Zoo’s accessibility page for policies and resources. Please contact us with any additional questions.
Snore & Roar Sleepovers are for adults and children ages 6 and up. All children must be at least 6 years old by the date of the program. No refunds will be granted for registrations involving children under 6 years old.
A paying adult must accompany anyone under 18, and there must be one adult chaperone for every three children.
Snore & Roars begin at 6 p.m. and end at 9:30 a.m. the following day. A small snack will be provided, however participants should eat dinner before coming to the Zoo. All Zoo restaurants close at 5 p.m.
Cancellation requests received at least four weeks prior to the scheduled Snore & Roar will receive a 75 percent refund. Requests must be made via this contact form. No refunds or changes will be made thereafter. No refunds will be granted to groups registering children that are not old enough to participate. Snore & Roars are rain or shine events.
